A special visitor for Oxted fire crew

Oxted’s firefighters had a special visitor before Christmas, bearing gifts of sweet delight… but it wasn’t Santa!  It was eight year old Jasmine Baber of Limpsfield, who has just about finished her 24 Random Acts Of Kindness, which began on December 1 and will end on Christmas Eve. Thanks & Merry Christmas to all in Limpsfield!

Before we all close up shop for Christmas, a little note to say thanks very much for all the support for the Limpsfield website since its launch in October.

The aim of the Limpsfield website and related social media is to help maintain a sense of the lovely community of the Limpsfield parish area; to provide useful information for people who live in the parish; to promote Limpsfield’s businesses and attractions; sing about all the amazing people who contribute to the community and generally provide a little bit of insight into Limpsfield life!

The site, FB, Twitter etc is completely voluntary and managed in “spare” time and relies on Limpsfield residents and business owners for information, news and general goings-on in the area.  If you want to be included, please email your business, organisation or events info, photos, what’s on and Flashback Friday photos to hello@limpsfieldsurrey.com. Everything is greatly appreciated, and as long as it’s relevant and appropriate, it will be included!

Constructive feedback is more than welcome, so let me know what you think about the site and if you have any suggestions for content!

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and prosperous New Year.

Flashback Friday: Nightingale cellist, Beatrice Harrison at Foyle Riding

Foyle Riding was formerly the home of world famous cellist, Beatrice Harrison (1892 – 1965). The garden at Foyle Riding was perhaps the most talked about garden in England in the 1920s. For the very first time, on 19th May 1924, radio listeners heard a cello playing while nightingales sang, live and broadcast by the BBC.

Reverend Percival to run sessions on recent trip to the Holy Land

Recently the Reverend James Percival, Rector of Limpsfield & Titsey at St Peter’s Limpsfield, made a very special journey to Israel and Palestine to gain first-hand knowledge of an area so important to many faiths.   From Wednesday January 11th, he will be running four sessions on his study pilgrimage; covering geography, history, theology and sacred stories – past, present and future.

Everyone is welcome – all faiths or no faith – and no questions are off the table!  There will be separate sessions for children.

Flashback Friday: A misty Limpsfield High Street c1906

It looks rather like the damp, misty and muddy weather we’re having right now and actually Rosewell and Jessamine cottages and Sandridge have changed very little from the outside, but this flashback photo is from 1906.   Does anyone know who the local girls standing outside the cottages might be?  Continue reading “Flashback Friday: A misty Limpsfield High Street c1906”

Flashback Friday: 1941 trip in the automobile

Courtesy of Lynn Mills.
1941, day out in the automobile ‘near #Oxted‘. We’re pretty sure this is taken from outside The Boys Home at #Titsey Road approaching #Limpsfield Village.
“It’s one of my favourites from my grandfather’s album,” says Lynn. “He mainly photographed views, but that one’s special, because it includes my Mum, uncle and grandmother in the picture, together with a friend. They were living in Selsdon at that time, so would’ve gone down Titsey Road to be ‘near Oxted’.
