Limpsfield Life: June Edit

June is shaping up to be a wonderfully busy month in Limpsfield, with plenty of opportunities to get out and about, support local businesses, enjoy the countryside and connect with the community. From art exhibitions, live music and village socials to walks across the Chart, community events, food and drink gatherings, there is something for all ages and interests.

Whether you’re looking for culture, conversation, outdoor activities or simply an excuse to enjoy a local pub garden, café or beauty spot, the village and surrounding area have a packed programme of events throughout the month. Here’s a snapshot of what’s coming up.

Volunteers’ Week (1–7 June)
A good place to start is Volunteers’ Week. If you’ve ever thought about getting a bit more involved locally, this is your nudge. Whether it’s lending a hand at Memorial Stores, or being a Limpsfield Litter Angel for Big Green Week, even a small contribution makes a real difference.

The Arts
Classical Music & Choral: On Saturday, June 6, the Oxted & Limpsfield Choral Society is hosting a one-hour Summer Concert at the Oxted United Reformed Church, followed by refreshments (tickets are free, but available on Eventbrite).

For something floral, on 3rd June The Oxted and Limpsfield Floral Design Club is hosting Renovation & Manipulation, a special workshop with Sue Byrom at St Andrew’s, 12.30 – 4.30. Cost £20 for members, £25 non-members Plus cost of foliage (tbc)

Then on 10th June, their monthly demonstration is by SUE FLIGHT, presenting: “Summers Early”. St Peter’s Church Hall, High Street, Limpsfield, Surrey, RH8 0DG. Doors open at 12.30pm, demonstrations start at 1pm. Guests welcome.

Art lovers are in for a treat with Art in June (5–21 June), now a well-established annual event showcasing artists from across Kent and the Surrey borders. Studios open daily, offering a chance to meet artists and explore work ranging from painting and ceramics to mixed media. Limpsfield has two venues this year:

The Bull Inn’s Grainstore will host Ashley Fosdike, Lesley Hall, Svitlana Soloviova and Anne McArdle, while The Limpsfield Home Company at Wickhams Courtyard features Carolyn Orr and Debbie Wisniewski and Gloria Whiting.

You’ll also find artists exhibiting at St Mary’s Church in Oxted, including Helen and Nadeem Qureshi and Linda Lambert.

Wickham’s Summer Celebration

In celebration of Art in June and the start of summer, Wickhams Courtyard will host a summer celebration on 6 and 7 June, with Bey Tree, Limpsfield Home Co. and Oxted Framing turning this super little enclave into a sunny destination for art, homewares, fashion and accessories (refreshments will also be flowing).

There’s more to come from Kate Tulett Art too. On Thursday 25 June, the “Last Thursday” evening brings together live music, art and spoken word. Looking ahead, Kate and Bey Tree will host a charity fashion show on 2 July (6–10pm), featuring upcycled designs created by students from Kate Tulett Art and Hazelwood School. Tickets are £10, with proceeds going to Kate’s Community Fund. Donations of old clothing (blazers, jackets, jeans, skirts and shirts) are very welcome.

For something a little different, The Arts Society Limpsfield hosts its June lecture on Wednesday 24 June at 7.30pm in the Church Hall: “Joseph Duveen: Charismatic crook or the world’s greatest art dealer?”

Food, Drink & Socials
The Bull Inn has a full calendar this month: a garden DJ party with Seb Emmins on the 13th, Ascot Day on 20 June (with fizz, canapés and plenty of glamour), a community dog walk on 21 June, quiz night on the 25th and musical bingo on the 28th

For a special evening out, The View at Quince House hosts its Italian-inspired Supper Club on Friday 12 June (£65pp). Set in beautiful gardens with views down to the South Downs, it’s a lovely spot for a relaxed summer dinner.

For something less formal, the Royal British Legion is a great spot for cricket and beers every weekend — a simple pleasure, but a good one. They’ll also be showing the England and Scotland FIFA World Cup matches, alongside their regular bingo and live music nights.

Out and About
Titsey Place gardens are now in full bloom and open Wednesday to Sunday. It’s hard to beat an afternoon wandering through the grounds, followed by tea and cake at the tea rooms.

East Surrey Walkers are leading a 3-mile stroll across Limpsfield Chart on Thursday 18 June, 10am. http://www.eastsurreywalkers.org.uk/walks/

Oxted & Limpsfield Rotary is hosting a special CAR Show at Master Park on 7 June, with Cars on Cards exhibition and talk at the Library from 4-6 June to get you in the mood.
