The beautiful and historic Titsey Place off Water Lane in Limpsfield and its gorgeous gardens will once again be open to the public from May 17 through to 27 September, 2017.
If you’re a local dog owner, you probably walk through the Titsey Estate often, but over the summer, Titsey is a fantastic place to take your mum, friends, children (but not dogs, except guide dogs) to have a look around the house, explore the gardens and woodland or have tea in the old Home Farm dairy buildings, which were converted into Tea Rooms in 2007.
Titsey Place is a beautiful old manor house, the main part of which dates from 1775, but also has parts that date back to an earlier Tudor house. It sits on a site of an old Roman villa, so is steeped in both visible and hidden history!
The interior of the existing house was designed by William Atkinson and is especially noted for a fine collection of family portraits by artists such as Sir Joshua Reynolds and Peter Lely.
Other highlights of the tour include the new dining room with its four, stunning paintings of Venice by Canaletto.
Have a wander around the meticulously maintained gardens, which have always been enjoyed by many generations and have beautiful, far-reaching views across the Darent valley, extending as far as the South Downs.
The intriguing Walled Kitchen Garden was restored in 1996 as an illustration of Victorian horticultural techniques and is one of the best surviving of its kind.
