Friends of Limpsfield Common Update
Spring is in full swing, with frogs returning in large numbers to Yalden Spring. Ranger India and Taskforce volunteers have recently built a dead hedge on West Heath to protect recovering heathland, cleared bracken and scrub and sown heather and acid grassland seeds. At Yalden Spring on the Chart, selective tree clearance is increasing light levels, with desilting and bridge repairs planned later this year. Work is also underway for long-term control of invasive cherry laurel and address unsafe bike jumps at West Heath.
Wildlife to spot this spring includes swallows and cuckoos, fox cubs, hedgehogs, butterflies such as Peacocks and Brimstones, bluebells, bee-flies (bumblebee lookalikes!) and ladybirds. Look out for tadpoles at Padbrook Pond and Yalden Spring.
For an Easter holiday project, why not make a bug hotel using recycled materials or buy one from The Woodhouse Centre to customise. Spotter sheets and project how-tos: www.friendsoflimpsfieldcommon.organd www.limpsfieldsurrey.com.
Heads Up: This year’s Open Days at the Air Raid Shelters, Grub Street will be on Saturday 9 May (Surrey Day) and Sunday 19 July, 2–4pm. Free places can be reserved through Eventbrite (link on www.friendsoflimpsfieldcommon.org)

Limpsfield Parish Council Update
Limpsfield residents are warmly invited to attend the Limpsfield Annual Parish Meeting on 14 May 2026, 7PM. This year is the turn of St Peter’s Church Hall to host, and will be an opportunity to find out more about the Local Government Reorganisation, learn what the process means for parish councils and meet your councillors, as well as a chance to ask general questions about the parish and raise any issues. Ideally RSVP to the Clerk and send questions in advance.
We also invite local community organisations and groups to come along and let parishioners know more about them. clerk@limpsfieldparishcouncil.gov.uk
A quick update on Local Government Reorganisation
East Surrey Council and West Surrey Council Elections will take place on 7 May 2026, with the councillors serving first as a “shadow” authority before the new councils take full control on 1 April 2027. Please ensure you are registered to vote ahead of the May elections.
Parish councils will continue to exist after reorganisation. Local services must still be delivered during the transition, so day-to-day parish-level activity and responsibilities do not change. Parish councils may take on more responsibilities in the future, and it is likely that Limpsfield and its neighbouring parishes may collaborate on some assets, activities and projects. FYI: Limpsfield Parish Council’s current term ends in May 2027 when parish council elections will take place.
A few reminders for spring – in and around Limpsfield:
- Hedges: Make sure you keep your hedges trimmed back from the pavements and roads.
- Please don’t park on pavements: It forces pedestrians into the road and destroys verges.
- No Mow May: Get your gardens mown this month then leave them (or an area) unmown for wildflowers, wildlife and grasses.
- Stoneleigh Road Allotments: The rubbish has gone and hedges tidied, so please make sure you are following your obligations: Keep the plot clean, in a good state of cultivation (75%) and remove any rubbish. No washing lines, baths (water butts only), fences or hedging.
- Countryside code: Stick to marked footpaths and bridleways and no motorised bikes of any kind on the Chart or Common. Keep dogs out of the pond and under proper control around wildlife and livestock. Respect fenced and dead-hedged areas – there to protect wildlife and the bluebells at Ridlands Grove.
Heads up – Chart Fair is Sunday 14 June and Limpsfield Village Fete is Saturday 20 June.
