The new kids on the block (aka Limpsfield High Street) are Theresa, Hayley and Sean, who have just opened new café, Coffee at Kiwi House. If you’ve not been yet, take a trip up the high street – Tuesday to Sunday – for coffee, cakes, breakfasts and light lunches.
The mother, son and daughter trio had been talking about setting up a café together for years and when the opportunity arose to open in Limpsfield, they jumped at the chance.
A former bakery and tea rooms owner, Theresa (mum) recently moved back to Surrey from Kent to spend more time with her kids and grandchildren… and running a café is definitely one way to spend more time together!
Theresa has lots of experience in baking, having run a tearooms in Goudhurst, Kent for several years before returning to Surrey. She and Hayley will be creating most of the amazing pastries and cakes on offer, including their signature treat, the millionaire’s shortbread, chocolate tiffin cake, chocolate brownies, flapjacks, lemon drizzle, orange drizzle and carrot cake. The larger cakes come from a wonderful family artisan bakery based in West Sussex.
Hayley, who has spent her career to date as a secretary and PA is a born organiser and as a mum with young children, she loved the idea of creating a family-friendly meeting place in a local community close to her own home, where everyone is welcome.
“We have wanted to go into business together for what seems like forever, but have never had the right opportunity,” said Hayley. “Now we’ve created what we hope everyone will agree is a lovely relaxed space to enjoy a yummy cake and a coffee.”
As a carpenter by trade, Sean has made the majority of the beautiful wooden tables and serving area, while Hayley’s husband, James designed all the lighting and hand made the fitting above the bar area with Sean. The welcoming and beautifully decorated space now includes the former boutique, now a cosy little lounge space – The Snug – with comfy armchairs and low tables, perfect for a quiet chat away from the bustle of the main café space.
Aside from cakes and treats, Coffee at Kiwi House will be serving light brunches and lunches, including favourites such as smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, avocado and tomato on toast, homemade quiche, ploughman’s, paninis and several daily specials.
They also stock a number of handmade bags and beautiful sterling silver jewellery, created by Hayley’s good friends, Louise from HullabaLou Rosie of Walter & Nancy Silver.
Open times: 9-5 Tuesday to Saturday and 10-4 on Sundays.
