Flashback Friday: The Bull, Limpsfield

“Wot, no hanging baskets!?” The Bull on Limpsfield High Street used to be a hotel as well as a public house and has welcomed many, many generations of Limpsfield residents through its doors.

The pub itself dates back to the 17th Century with 18th and 19th C. additions. It looks pretty busy in these old photos from the 1863 and 1910, but what are all those people doing, standing outside? Surely you could smoke inside in those days?!  Must have been a hot day or they were all told to step outside for the photo…

This Grade II listed village pub doesn’t look all that different today, though…except today’s version is a lot more colourful and pretty, probably with less straw, dirt and horse manure 😉
