Next Saturday, 4th March 2017, Limpsfield will be filled with the sound of high energy, big band jazz as St Peter’s Hall hosts the popular JetStream Jazz band. Proceeds from the bar will go to Moor House School & College. The JetStream Jazz Band is dedicated to providing energetic and fun performances of big band chart sounds and promises something for everyone.
Playing a variety of music, including pieces by well known arrangers such as Marty Paich, Oliver Nelson, Frank Mantooth and Chris Smith, their repertoire includes music written for the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band, the bands of Buddy Rich, Stan Kenton, Count Basie and Bob Curnow’s LA Big Band.
Formed in April 2001, the band was set up by a trombone and saxophone playing husband and wife team, Susan and Tim Ebbels. The couple, who live in Oxted, are well known to Limpsfield, with children having attended Limpsfield CoE Infants School. Susan also works at Moor House School & College.
The couple have set about gathering musicians from a wide area to play a challenging and varied repertoire of Big Band music. Members come from all over South East to monthly rehearsals in Burstow and many are professional or semi-professional musicians, music teachers and performers.
The band consists of 20 talented musicians – 5 trumpets, 5 trombones, 5 saxophones, piano, bass, guitar, drums and a vocalist – who all come together to produce an exciting and energetic sound.
Regular Music Director, trumpeter Raul D’Oliveira ( who unfortunately can’t be at the Limpsfield gig) is well know in the UK music scene, having played with the likes of Elton John, Mike Oldfield, Wham, Boy George, Mica Paris and Joan Armatrading. https://www.discogs.com/artist/435777-Raul-DOliveira
JetStream Jazz’s notable recent gigs include the Savoy in London, Hever Castle and the Limpsfield Jazz BBQ, where the band also featured percussion by local children from Limpsfield Infants!
