Limpsfield Life – March Edit

Spring is sort of springing, or at least trying to (!) and the wildlife are getting busy on Limpsfield Common and the surrounding countryside. There are lots of tiny lambs at Ridlands (please keep dogs on leads in the fields and Ridlands Grove) and LOADS of frogs and toads in the Yalden Spring pond. They arrived promptly for the annual February Frog Fest and having spawned, have now mainly departed!

Don’t forget Mother’s Day is Sunday 15 March – we have lots going on in Limpsfield and plenty of places to purchase lovely gifts for mum. There are a lot of other events going on this month too, so please read on for Limpsfield news and What’s On!

Mother’s Day (Sunday 15 March)

Lots of lovely gifts in stores in Limpsfield – lifestyle, homewares, flowers and plants (fresh and faux) Coffee at Kiwi House (Tues to Sat), Kate Tulett Art for All (Weds to Sat) and The Limpsfield Home Company (Weds to Sat 10am-4pm. NB. Bey Tree reopens 19 March). The Limpsfield Kitchen (Tues to Saturday) and Memorial Stores (open daily) are also great for foodie gifts.

NB – apparently official flowers for Mother’s Day are carnations, chosen for their long-lasting nature and rich symbolism. Pink carnations represent a mother’s eternal love and gratitude, while white carnations honour mothers who have passed away

There are plenty of opportunities to have a lovely day with mum. Why not start your day with a walk on the Chart, grab a coffee at FIKA Blends and Friends in High Chart car park, then head to lunch at The Carpenters, The Legion or The Bull Inn. Book in advance!

The Limpsfield Cookery School Rebrands

The Limpsfield Cookery School, our delicious high street gem opposite Memorial Stores, has officially rebranded as The Limpsfield Kitchen to focus on its busy event catering business and delicious home-cooked ready meals.

Jacqui Derbyshire launched the cookery school just before the first Covid lockdown in February 2020. Due to the lockdowns, home-cooked ready meals quickly played an important role and have continued to thrive – you can also buy them in Memorial Stores, Knights Chelsham and Westerham Farm Shop.

Events and catering have become the main focus, and the school has now officially rebranded as The Limpsfield Kitchen. Children’s classes will continue during school holidays, while adult classes have ended. The shop remains open Monday to Saturday, with Bread Fridays featuring Ridwan Kohl’s amazing pastries and artisan breads from 10am – order in advance or come early!

Walking with Dogs

There have been some complaints about dogs and their owners recently, particularly on Limpsfield Chart and the Common. We ask you to please be mindful of wildlife and other walkers (with and without dogs) :

  • Keep dogs under close control at all times and on the lead if they are not sociable or very boisterous. Be considerate of other visitors – not everyone is comfortable around dogs.Even when dogs are allowed off-lead, they should respond immediately to recall and not approach people, livestock or wildlife uninvited.
  • Stick to designated footpaths and bridleways, keeping dogs out of protected spaces and ponds. Respect wildlife and habitats – chasing birds, entering ponds, or exploring sensitive areas can cause lasting damage.
  • Follow lead restrictions during bird nesting season, around livestock and in any areas where signage asks for dogs to be on leads.
  • Clear up after your dog – please bag and remove or bin dog waste. Even in woodland areas. Use designated bins or take it home with you. Do not throw into the undergrowth or leave hanging on branches… seriously, who does that???

Thank you. Have a great March!
